Information

Fun Kids is a UK-based digital radio station for children, headquartered in London. Launched in 2005 and owned by Children’s Radio UK Ltd, it broadcasts through select regional DAB multiplexes, its website, mobile apps, and smart speakers. The station focuses on 6–12-year-olds and runs a dedicated sub-channel, Fun Kids Junior, for preschoolers.

The presenters talk to listeners directly, avoiding patronizing tones. Shows like Science Weekly and the Book Club combine simple facts with entertainment. Listeners participate by sending in voice notes, song requests, and quiz answers.

The station plays mainstream pop by artists like Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Dua Lipa during the day, mixed with movie soundtracks. After 7 pm, the playlist shifts to slower acoustic and ambient tracks. The station bans advertisements for unhealthy products, focusing only on family-oriented brands.

Official metrics linked to RAJAR (Q1 2026) data, Fun Kids London reach hit 60,000 listeners, totaling 95,000 hours. The station received a Bronze Award for UK Radio Station of the Year at the 2024 ARIAS.

Finding content for the 12–15 age group remains a struggle, as kids often stop listening once they hit their teens. DAB coverage is also unreliable in some rural areas.

I have tracked the station for years. It is a functional choice for parents who want to avoid the aggressive commercials found on mainstream radio. That said, the daytime playlist is extremely repetitive. If you are stuck in the car for more than thirty minutes, you will hear the same songs cycle through again and again. It does its job as a safe utility, but the lack of musical variety can get boring for anyone over the age of ten.
