IBC Tamil Radio

IBC Tamil Radio is a digital diaspora station based in Ruislip, west London. It broadcasts across the UK and globally via digital streams, operating without an analogue call sign. Owned by London Tamil Media Ltd since 1997, the station runs 24 hours a day entirely in the Tamil language. Its infotainment format covers news, community discussions, and film music.

Most British Asian radio networks cater predominantly to Hindi and Punjabi audiences, leaving Tamil speakers with few dedicated broadcast outlets. IBC Tamil Radio fills that specific gap. It gives listeners direct coverage of Sri Lankan and Tamil Nadu current affairs without third-party filters. Programming centres on local diaspora announcements and morning talk shows like Vanakkam Tamil, keeping discussions grounded in community reality.

Music selection revolves around Kollywood film soundtracks. The rotation features classic compositions from Ilaiyaraaja, releases by A. R. Rahman, and current chart tracks. Mornings skew towards melodic songs, while evenings lean into faster, beat-driven film numbers.

London Tamil Media Ltd reports an online listenership of over one million worldwide. Even so, the station faces practical hurdles. It carries no UK-wide DAB or FM licence, so drivers must rely on phone data or third-party web apps. Its strict Tamil-only policy also means second-generation diaspora members who speak mostly English will miss out on the talk segments.
