Information

NME Radio 1 is a digital alternative music station based in London. The station has since undergone a rebranding after its partnership with NME ended, moving to independent management under XFM creator Sammy Jacob and now operating under the name TMM 1 (The Music Machine 1). It broadcasts via DAB+ in London and Norwich. Launched in 2008, brought back in 2018, and updated since, the station targets indie rock fans and former NME readers.

The station once featured live hosts like Neil Cole and Claire Sturgess. Today, it runs mostly as an automated digital music channel rather than a traditional talk network. Listeners get continuous alternative tracks without mainstream pop repetition.

The playlist focuses on legendary alternative acts. It includes punk and grunge pioneers alongside indie groups like Nirvana and Blur. The sound stays true to its counter-culture roots.

Compared to BBC Radio 6 Music or Radio X, TMM Radio 1 offers a more niche, ad-sparse alternative experience. On the downside, it has limited terrestrial DAB+ coverage outside London and Norwich, plus a lack of live presenters.
