Capital XTRA

Capital XTRA is a national digital radio station broadcasting from its London studios across the UK on DAB, TV platforms, and Global Player, alongside FM frequencies 96.9 and 107.1 in Greater London. Owned by Global and launched in October 2013 (traceable back to its predecessor Choice FM, which originally launched on 31 March 1990), it focuses on hip-hop, R&B, drill, and Afrobeats for listeners aged 15 to 34.

Breakfast hosts Robert Bruce and Shayna Marie wake up listeners, while Manny Norte handles the weekend mix show.

The rotation features tracks from artists like Kendrick Lamar, Central Cee, Dave, and Tyla.

RAJAR(Q2 2026) puts weekly listeners at 1.5 million. Listeners tune in because the station acts as a direct conduit for current UK rap and urban culture, filling a commercial space that traditional broadcasters often miss.

The station replaced Choice FM in 2013, drawing protests from listeners attached to the older brand. Some purists still point out the heavy ad breaks compared to BBC Radio 1Xtra, though the digital reach remains high. It covers the charts well, even if it lacks the depth of underground pirate or specialist stations.
