Information
For many, Classic FM is more than just a radio station; it's a guide to the world of light classical music, with a friendlier tone than the academic and intellectual tone of BBC Radio 3. Under the leadership of Ashley Tabor-King and Simon Pitts, the station draws a massive audience of 4.3 million listeners every week (RAJAR figures for Q3 2025). Here, classical music is stripped of its snobbery.
Mornings with Dan Walker offer a gentle yet invigorating rhythm that provides a sanctuary even in the heaviest traffic. During the day, the airwaves are in hands of Anne-Marie Minhall, a fixture since 1996, while evenings with the calm voice of Zeb Soanes (a BBC Radio 4 legend) turn into a true session of relaxation.
Listening to the broadcast this week during morning and lunchtime, I noticed how naturally Mozart’s Flute & harp concerto in c major gave way to Vladimir's Blues of Max Richter. Granted, the persistent commercial breaks are inescapable, but that is a small price to pay for such curated access to masterpieces.
The station lives through its traditions The Global Awards honor even music teachers, and Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto has rightfully topped the charts for three years running. This is living classical music, understood by everyone
